RECEPTION OF PRC AMBASSADOR ZHANG WENTIAN

1 July 1954 at 1000

N. T. Fedorenko and [Yan Min-chzhi], 2nd Secretary of the PRC Embassy were present.

Zhang Wentian reports that at the instructions of the Government of the PRC he is to pass several documents to the Soviet Government about questions of Soviet economic aid to China

He describes the content of an aide memoire and passes the text of this note (attached) to V. M. Molotov.

Molotov says that the questions raised in the aide memoire will be passed to the Soviet Government for consideration.

Zhang Wentian expresses gratitude.

Molotov is interested in information about Zhou Enlai's trip to India and Burma.

Zhang Wentian notes that this trip of Zhou Enlai's was quite successful, but he, Zhang Wentian, does not have enough information about this question except what has been published in the press.

Molotov notes the important international significance of Zhou Enlai's trip to Delhi and Rangoon, in particular the fact that Zhou Enlai's visit to India and Burma will promote the strengthening of ties between China and these countries.

For his part, Zhang Wentian stresses the important nature of the trip of Zhou Enlai and notes its significance as a countermeasure with respect to Eisenhower's talks with Churchill.

Then Molotov and Zhang Wentian exchanged brief information about the talks currently taking place at the Geneva Conference.

The conversation lasted 20 minutes.
