RECEPTION OF AN IRANIAN GOVERNMENT DELEGATION

14 March 1953 at 1400

 

Present were:

from the Iranian side: Minister of Labor Alyami, Ambassador Arasteh, Lieutenant-General Shafai, Director of the 2nd Department of the MFA Fahimi, Director of the MFA Department of Information Dr. Mostafani;

 

from the Soviet side:

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs G. M. Pushkin, Zudin [interpreter]

 

Alyami said that in the name of the Shah, the government, and the people of Iran the delegation expresses condolences to the Soviet Government on the occasion of the death of I. V. Stalin, the Chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers, that the Soviet people have suffered a grave loss, and that the grief of the Soviet people is shared by the Iranian people. Everything that the Iranian delegation has seen in the Soviet Union and that which they know of the Soviet Union, all this is the result of the creative work of the late leader.

 

Molotov expressed gratitude for the condolences expressed by Alyami on behalf of the Soviet Government and says that the great successes of the Soviet people are connected with the name of I. V. Stalin, under whose leadership the Soviet state was created and developed.

 

Alyami said I. V. Stalin and other leaders of the Soviet people withstood difficult trials before they created the free and independent Soviet state, which Iran, which has undergone severe trails, especially understands. Alyami declared that from the moment of the creation of the Soviet state a new stage began in the relations between the Soviet Union and Iran based on friendship and mutual respect.

 

Molotov replied that Lenin and Stalin laid the foundation of a new policy in relations between peoples, a policy of friendship and cooperation. The Soviet Government is composed of pupils of Lenin and Stalin and the task of the Soviet Government is to serve the people, whose interests require maintaining friendly relations with other peoples, including the Iranian people.

 

Alyami said that the Iranian government highly appreciates the fact that the Soviet Government is composed of comrades-in-arms of I. V. Stalin and that the Iranian government is sure that the friendship established between the USSR and Iran will continue to strengthen. Alyami added that the Iranian government was happy to learn of the appointment of V. M. Molotov as USSR Minister of Foreign Affairs and that it expresses the hope that V. M. Molotov in the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs will promote the strengthening of friendly relations between the USSR and Iran.

 

Molotov replied that he will do everything that depends on him to strengthen friendly relations between the USSR and Iran.

 

Alyami expressed gratitude.

 

Molotov asked how the delegation feels in Moscow.

 

Alyami replied that the delegation is encountering great consideration everywhere and that the delegation thanks the Soviet Government for the warm and cordial welcome. Alyami reports that the delegation intends to fly to Iran on the morning of 18 March.

 

Molotov wished that the delegation familiarize itself with Moscow in the time remaining before departure.

 

Alyami expressed gratitude and bade goodbye.
