The Second Meeting with the Atomic Energy Group of the Indonesian Economic Delegation

 

According to our knowledge, the head of the atomic energy group has returned to the Indonesian Embassy. After the first meeting yesterday afternoon, this group returned to their hotel and had a meeting for discussion.

 

This afternoon the second meeting between the two sides took place, the content of which can be summarized as the following points:

 

1. The head of the group put forward a list of their requests for this visit. The requests can be divided into three categories: a) places they want to visit; b) negotiations; c) others.

 

  1. The factories and laboratories that select uranium ore, refine and process the raw materials into fuel; the factories and laboratories that process the burned materials; all kinds of reactors, especially the ones for power supply purpose; the factories that produce heavy water, graphite, Zirconium and Beryllium.

 

  1. In the negotiations, the Indonesian side proposed long term cooperation between the two countries on atomic energy, including exchanges of intelligence, experts and materials, as well as the possibility of training Indonesian professional personnel in China.

 

  1. Protective measures against nuclear radiation and other industries that are indirectly related to atomic energy.

 

2. The head of the Atomic Energy Group repeatedly requested for a schedule, so that he could report to the head of the Indonesian Economic Delegation. He expressed the intention to stay in China for three weeks. If necessary, the visit could be further extended for a couple of days or a week.

 

3. The head of the Atomic Energy Group said that the Indonesian leaders had seen a documentary about China’s nuclear test. The group requested to see that documentary too.

 

4. The group is scheduled to visit the nuclear reactor at Tsinghua University tomorrow (21 [September]).

 

Report on the second meeting with the Atomic Energy Group of the Indonesian Economic Delegation. The head of the delegation asks to visit factors and labs that select uranium ore and process raw materials into fuel. In negotiations, the Indonesian side proposes longterm cooperation between Indonesia and China on atomic energy, and protective measures against nuclear radiation.

Report goes on to relate questions raised by group members about atomic energy related organizations in China, and describes the screening of a documentary on the first successful explosion of a Chinese atomic bomb.

7th report on the visit of the Atomic Energy Group of the Indonesian Economic Delegation. Indonesian atomic energy group visits the No. 2 Institute of Atomic Energy Research in China, touring various facilities in the institute including a heavy water reactor built with Soviet aid. Report notes the group's satisfaction with the visit.
