  • Vassiliev Notebooks

    A collection of 8 notebooks and loose pages kept by Alexander Vassiliev while researching in the KGB archives. In the mid-1990s, Vassiliev researched Soviet espionage in America as part of an SVR-supported book project. His notebooks contain summaries of documents, transcriptions, and his own notes. Three versions of each notebook is provided: a scanned copy of the original notebook; a Russian transcription; and an English translation.   • Intelligence Operations in the Cold War

    This is a collection of primary source documents that discuss intelligence issues during the Cold War. The documents come from archives in many different Soviet bloc countries. They are mainly decision memorandums, descriptions, agreements, and reports. The collection includes mainly bilateral agreements for cooperation between Communist countries and domestic intelligence reports from Bulgaria.   • Mitrokhin Archive

    The Mitrokhin Archive consists of summarized notes taken by Vasili Nikitich Mitrokhin, a former KGB archivist who defected to the United Kingdom after the fall of the Soviet Union. Primarily, this collection contains items from his "Chekist Anthology," which covers activities of the secret Soviet organization Cheka in places such as Czechoslovakia, Afghanistan, and Egypt. For more context, please read the "Note on Sources" and biography of Mitrokhin below, all of which should be read before any other documents.
