Filippov At 1640 14 May I visited Cde. Mao Zedong and delivered your telegram to him. Thanking me for the reply Cde. Mao Zedong reported that in a conversation with him on the evening of 13 May the Korean comrades had informed him in detail about the situation in the country and about the conversation with you. He agreed with the assessments of the Korean comrades of the situation in North and South Korea and also with their assessment of the correlation of forces between the north and the south. Cde. Mao Zedong then pointed out that he had informed the Korean comrades of the possibility of concluding a treaty of friendship, alliance, and mutual aid (after unification) on the model of the Chinese-Soviet treaty but that the Chinese government would make a final decision on the conclusion of such a treaty only after consulting with Cde.
