to Cde. Malenkov, G. M.

According to a report which we have received from a member of the CC of the People’s Party of Iran, Kambakhsh (see attachment), in 1950 M. I. Ivanova defended her candidate’s dissertation in the CC CPSU’s Academy of Social Sciences about the activities of the Iranian Communist Party which contains political errors. A preliminary check made at our request by Cde. Grigor’yan V., the Chairman of the CC CPSU Commission for Liaison with Foreign Communist Parties, confirmed Kambakhsh’s report. Decisions of several Iranian Communist Party organizations were cited and used in the dissertation which are misleading and distort the character and meaning of a number of the most important political events and issues.

Thus, for example, in M. I. Ivanova’s dissertation a decree of one of the Iranian Communist Party organizations of 23 November 1920 about the activity of the CC ICP [Iranian Communist Party] was cited in which one of the reliable leaders of the revolutionary movement in Iran, the Communist Pishevari (Dzhavad Zade), [that] before he was sent [do posylki] to Iran he occupied leading Party posts in Soviet Azerbaijan and, having enjoyed enormous popularity in Iran, is named as an enemy of the people and the revolutionary movement, guilty of the destruction of the revolution in Iran, and undeserving of political trust. This is for all practical purposes a favor to reactionary circles in Iran.

At one time many members of the former Iranian Communist Party were unmasked as agents of British intelligence and arrested. Pursuing their work as counterrevolutionaries and provocateurs, these traitors not accidentally, but absolutely intentionally, tried to slander and discredit the active leaders of the revolutionary movement in Iran, and in particular to cast a shadow on the political reputation of Pishevari and compromise him, cloud the bright memory of him which remains among the broad masses of the people in order to more easily carry out their infamous designs and purposes.

We consider it necessary to report to You about this.
