Cable from the President of Brazil of the National Commission of Nuclear Energy to the Secretary-General Confirming the Arrival of Dr. Klaus Scharmer of the Jülich Research Center

Mr. Secretary-General

I have the honor to address Your Excellency in order to inform that starting on 15 of the current month, Dr. Klaus Scharmer, Head of the International Office of the Jülich Center for Nuclear Research – KFA, of the Federal Republic of Germany, will be in Brazil for conversations related to the implementation of the Special Convention on scientific and technological cooperation between that Center and the CNPq, which will be carried out within the scope of a program of visits to several Brazilian universities and research institutions, including this Council.

2.     Dr. Scharmer’s stay in Brazil is also connected to the Special Convention between CNEN and KFA, and for this reason, visits to research institutions in the nuclear area in Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and São Paulo are also included in his program. Visits to non-nuclear institutions will take place in those cities and also São Carlos-SP, Salvador and Recife.

3.      The Scientific Attaché of the German Embassy in Buenos Aires will come to Brazil in order to meet Dr. Scharmer.

4.        I consult Your Excellency on the convenience of informing the Head of the Cultural Section of the General Consulate of the RFA in this city and on the possibility that the Attaché takes part in the visits to be carried out by Dr. Scharmer.

5.         This Presidency is in favor of the visits related to the Convention with KFA, of which CNPq is an Implementing Institution, and recalls that CNPq maintains a Convention of scientific cooperation with its Argentine counterpart.

I avail myself of this opportunity to renew to Your Excellency the assurances of my high esteem and regard.

This document was sent to the Secretary-General, confirming the arrival of Dr. Klaus Scharmer to Brazil. Dr. Klaus Scharmer was the head of the International Bureau of the Nuclear Center of Jülich, and his visit was part of an exchange program between Brazilian institutions and universities and the research center. Dr. Scharmer came to Brazil to discuss the implementation of the Special Agreement between CNPq and KFA, in addition to an analogous CNEN-KFA agreement. Dr. Scharmer toured nuclear research institutions in Belo Horizonte, Sãp Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
