According to information from the head of the SD [Special Department] division of USSR KGB Chemical Defense troops, as of 8:00 on 30.04, the level of radioactivity in Pripyat was between 80 to 100 microroentgens per second, and at some points up to 180 microroentgens per second.

According to measurements from a helicopter at a height of 180 meters, the level of radioactivity over the source is 200 microroentgens per second.

On 29.04, 850 tons of material were thrown on the unit. The crater of the source is covered, and a cloud of around 60 cm can be observed over it.

The decision was made to conduct observation and continue working.

In order to determine the temperature of the source, a recording was made of the unit with an infrared camera. The decoded information will be ready by 17:00.

A sub-unit of the Chemical Defense division will conduct an examination of Pripyat and the zone near the unit with special cars and place warning signs.
