Minutes of the Meeting between Zhang Yue and Sir John Addis

Main points of the meeting with Interim Charge d’affaires of Hong Kong Addis, held April 10th at 9:30 AM:

Zhang: We invited Mr. Addis today to notify you of an important affair, please also alert the Hong Kong administration. We have eleven journalists who are traveling tomorrow (on the eleventh) from Hong Kong to Bandung by plane to report on the Afro-Asian Conference. We were informed that Nationalist (Guomindang) special agents will be obstructing and sabotaging this party, we are very concerned about this affair. Please alert the Hong Kong administration and arrange for our party’s safety.

Addis: I do not know where these people are living in Hong Kong, I need to know more information in order to notify the Hong Kong administration.

Zhang: Because they are all journalists, I think their lodging would probably be arranged by our Xinhua News Agency in Hong Kong. Whether or not they are staying at the Xinhua News Agency’s reception center, I am unsure.

Addis: What airline are they traveling on? Are they passing through Singapore?

Zhang: They are traveling on a chartered Air India flight, I am not sure what the flight routes are. Whether or not they are passing through Singapore, I am also unsure.

Addis: Ok, let us first telegraph Hong Kong to notify them of this affair, if any situation arises in the future you can inform me at anytime. I can also telegraph Hong Kong at any moment.

Zhang: Good, thank you. If I have new information I will notify you because we are very concerned about this affair.

Addis: We will be at home [office] until 5PM, if anything should arise you can contact us.

The conversation ends here.
