THE TENDENTIOUS COVERAGE OF EVENTS IN BUCHAREST BY A BRITISH CORRESPONDENT
BUCHAREST, 11 November (TASS). The TASS correspondent in Bucharest reports: the assertion of Rosing, the Daily Express correspondent in Bucharest repeated by London radio that fascist demonstrators greeted Soviet officers on 8 November and demonstrated in front of the Soviet Embassy building, is an attempt to put a good face on things. The demonstration had a sharply-pronounced fascist nature, was directed against the democratic forces of the country who are cultivating in people friendly feelings toward the Soviet Union, and was therefore already deeply anti-Soviet. Among the other fascist shouts on 8 November [these] exclamations rang out on the square: “Down with the Soviet Union, down with the Red Army”. The car of the Soviet Ambassador heading toward the palace was stopped by the fascist hooligans. In many regions of the city posters with greetings in honor of the 28th anniversary of the October Revolution were burned. Numerous cases were noted of hostile shouts directed against Soviet officers. The inventions of Rosing about a demonstration of the officers in front of the Soviet Embassy is a crude and tendentious lie. In ascribing a display of friendly sentiments, of which were no trace, to fascist riff-raff, Mr. Rosing, whom the fascist demonstrators held in respect, tried to cover [his] tracks and distract attention from the fact that he and his Bucharest colleagues in the British mission actually participated in a demonstration hostile to the Soviet Union, if they were not its organizers.
