    The strong relations between North Korea and Ethiopia is discussed. The Soviet economic advisors have been subsumed by Koreans, as a test of how much influence North Korea holds over Ethiopia.

    North Korean-Ethiopian relations are further discussed. The increasingly obvious sway North Korea holds over the country in its attempt to aid industrialization is not expected to bode well with the Soviet Union.

    North Korea is said to have started acknowledging the World War II and Korean War-era assistance of the USSR and China once again. Some Western literature is now available in the DPRK. And a flurry of construction projects have begun outside of Pyongyang.

The group discussed sports that could possibly be given to the North Korean side to organize, whether or not North and South Korea would compete as a unified team, and plans for the next meeting between the IOC and the Olympic Committees for North and South Korea.

    Notes on an informal meeting between IOC President Samaranch (with IOC VP Siperco) and members of the North Korean Olympic Committee. They discussed ways to include North Korea in the upcoming 1988 Summer Olympics. North Korea's IOC expressed its desire to participate the Olympics as a joint team with South Korea and also to host events to Pyongyang. Samaranch said that it may be possible for events to occur in Pyongyang and that the issue of a unified team was to be settled between North and South Korea.

North Korea stated that it would want at least eight events to occur on their territory, as opposed to the three offered. North Korea was also interested in involvement with the torch relay and reiterated its desire to include "Pyongyang" in the official name of the Olympics.

    International Olympic Committee President interview with Chun Doo-hwan on North Korean Threats to the 1988 Seoul Olympics

    IOC President Samaranch speaks to South Korean President Chun Doo-Hwan. Samarach tries to persuade Chun to concede some of the sports organizing at the upcoming Summer 1988 Olympics to North Korea, as their demands have "decreased drastically." Chun fears that concessions now will lead to greater concessions in the future. Chun urges Samaranch to take control of the situation, as the IOC is well-respected. In order for the IOC to negotiate with North Korea, North Korea must declare that it will honor the Olympic Charter.
