Report on Visits to the Mongolian People's Republic and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea

In September 1977, W. Jaruzelski  visited Mongolia and the DPRK. While in North Korea, Jaruzelski met with President Kim Il Sung and the Minister of National Defense O Jin U.  Although Jaruzelski did make several critical comments about the DPRK in his secret post-trip report, he still spoke in highly favorable terms about the country and generally recommended that Poland strengthen its relations with North Korea. 

Jaruzelsk's report also includes commentary on China's relations with both Mongolia and the DPRK.

Poland's ambassador to the DPRK reports on the speculation over the successor to Kim Il Sung and how the Republic of Korea's normalization of relations with communist states is related to the relative ranks of Kim Pyong-Il and Kim Jong Il.

Polish and Soviet officials discuss the latest developments in North Korea. They state that the internal situation in DPRK is stable. In addition, in order to solve economic hardships, the DPRK seeks enhanced cooperation with the Soviet Union.

In conversation with Com. Tomaszewski, Kim Il Sung analyzed Poland's declaration of martial law.

April 26, 1975

Record regarding Kim Il Sung's visit in Beijing (18-26 April 1975)

Kim Il Sung visited in Beijing and discussed the peaceful reunification of the Korean peninsula. Although China promised a diplomatic offensive on the behalf of the DPRK, it also warned against the outbreak of a war.

Kim Il Sung mentioned his gratitude to the Soviet Union. Kim discussed the impact of the Cultural Revolution on China and Sino-DPRK ties, and his wish to improve relations with the USSR.

Moskovsky advised Pak Geum-cheol and Kim Chang-man to cooperate with the Soviet-led socialist bloc. Conversation with Kim Il Sung and Moskovsky imply strong relations with the Soviet Union.

Liu Shaoqi and Gomułka review the state of the communist bloc, discussing the Sino-Soviet intervention in North Korea in 1956 and the position of Albania.
