This issue reprints Mao Zedong's speech "On the Correct Handling of Contradictions Among the People," originally delivered in February 1957. It also features statements concerning the punishment of officials who were responsible for famine-induced starvation in Guangxi province in 1956, the summer harvest, loan collection processes, agricultural pest control, transition from trainee to formal worker, and the management of waste in Beijing.

Minutes of the Meeting of the CPSU CC Plenum on the State of Soviet Foreign Policy

The Soviet leadership discusses the state of Soviet foreign policy after the Hungarian crisis and Khrushchev’s visit to the US. Molotov criticizes Khrushchev for recklessness in foreign policy direction. Soviet inroads in the Middle East and the Third World are analyzed. The effects of the crises in Eastern Europe are placed in the context of the struggle against US imperialism.

Ciphered Telegram, Filippov [Stalin] to Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai (via Roshchin)

Telegram from Stalin to Mao and Zhou Enlai asking that they consider moving 5-6 divisions of Chinese volunteers to the China-DPRK border in order to give the North Koreans cover under which to reorganize their troops. Stalin explicitly states that he will not mention this idea to the North Koreans.
