The Jhr. Vegelin van Claerbergen proposes to the chief of the department to loosen the reins in relations with North Korea, both for reasons of commerce and of politics, namely engaging North Korea to allow it to become less dependent on China.

Letter from Dutch Representative in Beijing to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regarding a Conversation with a Representative of the North Korean Trade Council

Dutch official J.J. Derksen reports on a conversation initiated by North Korean Trade Council representative Choi Jung Keun, who proposed to establish some kind of office in the Netherlands or even have a delegation visit, to which Derksen gave a non-committal reply.

Letter from Dutch Embassy, Havana (Boissevain), 24 July 1963

Boissevain reports on Fidel Castro. During a banquet held by the Egyptian ambassador, Castro speaks to Swiss Ambassador Masset of a decision to nationalize the former building of the U.S. embassy, currently in use by the Swiss embassy acting as U.S. representatives. Castro is noted as having "the air of one who is boasting to a trusted friend about how he has crossed an opponent." Boissevain thinks it best to keep on Castro's good side and requests an illustrated work of the Netherlands to be sent as a gesture of goodwill.

Record of Conversation from Premier Zhou's Reception of the Indonesian Ambassador Arnold Mononutu

The Indonesian ambassador tells Zhou that the Indonesian government has sent out the letter of invitation inviting China to attend the Asia-African Conference. Indonesia hopes that PRC will send delegation to this conference and that the Chinese premier will visit Indonesia. Zhou Enlai expresses that after the Chinese government receives the official letter of invitation, the government will give official reply.
