Novikov and Kim Il Sung discuss the DPRK’s trade and economy, emphasizing the increasing cooperation among the socialist countries through the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (Comecon). In addition, Kim Il Sung mentions that the North has secret contacts in South Korea in order to gain a better understanding of the internal situation in Seoul.

DPRK Ambassador to the German Democratic Republic Pak Gil-ryong speaks to Filatov about Nam Il’s report on the 3rd KWP Congress. Pak also reports that Kim Il Sung is dismissive of foreign criticism of the over emphasis on heavy industry in the DPRK and is planning to implement an ambitious five-year plan.

Kim says that he does not support the KWP CC Presidium decision “The Further Strengthening of the Fight Against Reactionary Bourgeois Ideology in Literature and Art” and its proponents’ aim to characterize Soviet Koreans as an anti-Party faction.
