In an unofficial meeting with North Korean Ambassador to Sweden Gil Jae-gyeong, Swedish Cabinet Secretary Sverker Åström notes evidence of North Korean smuggling and suggests that the ambassador voluntarily leave Stockholm with the diplomats involved in order to preserve positive relations between Sweden and North Korea.

In an urgent message for the Chief of Police, Swedish Charge D'Affairs in Pyongyang Erik Cornell suggests that the North Korean ambassador in Sweden not be declared guilty in the published police report on smuggling by North Korean diplomats. Cornell further suggests that the North Korean ambassador and Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs directly discuss the agreement he reached with the North Korean Deputy Foreign Minister that the ambassador will be recalled quickly should the Swedish government help minimize unfavorable press.

Swedish Charge D'Affairs in Pyongyang Erik Cornell reports, after a conversation with the country's Deputy Foreign Ministe, that the North Korean government is distancing itself from its diplomats' smuggling and resents the unilateral decisions taken in Copenhagen and Oslo to expel North Korean diplomats. Cornell also notes the vulnerable position of the Swedish Embassy in Pyongyang and urges caution.

The Press Department of the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs writes that the North Korean Ambassador Gil Jae-gyeong met with Political Department head Leif Leifland and adds that the Ministry is waiting for the police investigation into the North Korean smuggling case as well.
