DPRK Socialist Labor Law is adopted at the second session of the sixth-term SPA.

Hua Guofeng, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Premier of the People's Republic of China, arrives in Pyongyang as part of an official visit to North Korea. Staying in the DPRK until 10 May 1978, Hua discussed bilateral relations, inter-Korean relations, and the Non-Aligned Movement with his North Korean counterparts.

Deng Xiaoping, Vice-Chairman of the Chinese Communist Party and Vice Premier of the People's Republic of China, visits North Korea.
September 15, 1978
Kim Il Sung visits Beijing to reciprocate the earlier visit by Hu Yaobang and Deng Xiaoping to Pyongyang, to show that he has restored friendly relations with China. Kim reiterates North Korea and China's firm friendship and acknowledges the Chinese assistance during the Korean War.
