According to a report of our official Cde. YEGNAROV on 28 June of this year the Chinese went on the offensive against the Dungan [Hui] rebel battalion [divizion] in the region of Yun [sic]-Jinghe [Jing] (Xinjiang, Ili [Yili] District).

 

The offensive was supported by fire from 13-16 mortars and three aircraft, which attacked the rebel positions with bombs.

 

By 0800 the Chinese had pressed the rebels defending the right flank, reached the highway, and crossed the Yun-Jinghe-Takiantszy [sic] road, creating a threat of encirclement of the rebels defending in the region of Yun-Jinghe. For a day the rebels fought stubborn battles with superior enemy forces.

 

By the end of the day the rebels with a battalion of the 3rd Ghulja [Yining] Regiment thrown in for support had gone over to the counteroffensive and thrown the Chinese back to [their] previous positions.

 

The losses of the Chinese were up to 100 men killed.

 

The losses of the rebels were three killed and one wounded.

 

Captured equipment: two machine guns and four rifles.
