Beirut, Jun 1, 1949

I found out that Mr. Lilish, the chargé d'affaires of the Yugoslav Legation in Beirut, had received instructions from his government to investigate the former chargé, Victor Vidmar, and to assist Ismail Haji Pikovich.  However, the Yugoslav government, having not been able to come up with an arrangement in its policy in support of the Cominform had prompted it to conduct an administrative and financial investigation that resulted in bankruptcy and bribery charges issued for it.

I also learned from a higher source that the chargé d'affaires had completed this investigation for which he relied primarily on Saed Abdulla Kamal, the Yugoslav shipping company representative.  Through this individual, he has proven the presence of these problems and submitted his report to his government last week.

I learned that the Belgrade government had sent an invitation to Ismail Haji Pikovich to report to them to present his testify against Victor Vidmar.
