Entry of a Terrorist Group into the GDR

On 11 October 1977 a Jordanian citizen showed up in the Embassy of the GDR in Damascus and informed that a Palestinian group is planning a terror attack in Berlin (it was not known whether in the Capital of the GDR[i.e., East Berlin] or in West Berlin).

Members of the group are supposedly:

21 years old

Entry in Damascus on 15 September 1977, travel continued to Berlin on 6 October 1977.

xxx and xxx are supposedly traveling with an official student delegation from the University of Damascus.

All members of the group are supposedly belonging to the “Liberation Front”. They are said to have visa for [West] Berlin and the FRG [West Germany].

The Jordanian citizen stated he has also informed the Embassies of the FRG and Jordan [in Damascus].

An assessment of the reliability is not possible. Those individuals are not registered with [MfS] Department XII, they have not yet registered with other foreign representations of the GDR.
