Increased Activities by Extremist Palestinian Groups in Western Europe
It has become known from a reliable source that the group of the Palestinian
H a d d a d, Wadie [translator’s note: leader of the armed wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine], who has his base in Iraq, is increasingly planning commando operations in Western Europe. Haddad belongs to the “Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine” (PFLP) chaired by [George] Habash [translator’s note: founder and Secretary General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine between 1967 and 2000]. He [Haddad] has extensive relationships with people in Western Europe, including non-Arabs.
It is intended with those commando operations to closer unite all Palestinians again in order to strengthen the struggle against the reactionary forces in the Arabic world.
In detail it has become known that the group around Haddad has prepared and trained four people who are about to operate in the FRG [West Germany] in short order. Supposedly this is concerning individuals with Iraqi and Tunisian passports. Additional information does not exist.
The source reported that no information does exist regarding an involvement of the GDR in these activities.
East German intelligence reports that the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine may be planning "commando operations" in Western Europe.
