S t r a u s b e r g

Dear Comrade Fritz Streletz!

Attached I am sending you secret material with a couple of requests from the Ethiopian side for support in their difficult situation.

Comrade Erich Honecker is mandating that you:

- review as quickly as possible the options for our support

- prepare an order for him where the method of transport is outlined: as far as possible by air and, if not by air, per ship

I am asking you to call me after you have gone through the material; so that everything else can be discussed.

With socialist greetings

[signed Egon Krenz]

Appendix[1]

[1] Translator’s note: this appendix, apparently a military hardware request list from the Mengistu government, is not part of the Krenz papers in the SED Archives with the German Federal Archives in Berlin.

Egon Krenz writes to Colonel General Streletz about East German support for Ethiopia.
